About us

NORTHERN ALBERTA FREEMO  -  N SCALE GROUP

Thanks for your interest in our group! Here are a few points to explain what we’re about:

What is freemo? It’s a flexible, free form modular layout concept. Individuals can create their own modules and come together as a group to operate trains.

For a guidline idea: http://free-mon.net/standard.html

We use this as a starting point but aren't rigid about things to the point of taking the fun away.

How can you start? Just a simple 2 foot wide by 4-ish foot long module can keep you busy with track work, scenery and whatever your imagination can create.

Is this a club? Heck no! There are no dues, no mandatory meetings and no obligations. Just have fun and play trains. We’ll have meets at community halls or such where we can assemble a layout and be model engineers for the day.

Our goal: To be an inclusive, supportive and welcoming group who have N scale trains in common.

N Scale friends, get the benefit of running your favourite trains without having to fill your basement or extra room.
Build a module and join the fun!

Group Shows

We have been fortunate in being invited to participate in Calgary's "Supertrain" for the past 4 years as well as Edmonton's "Greater Edmonton Model Train Show".

We have been to Barrhead, AB at the Barrhead Museum and also to Westlock, AB at the Canadian Tractor Museum

In addition we have met up at locations in Edmonton as well.

Building Community

Through the years, model trains have brought generations together and helped friendships grow. We're happy to have the chance to make new friends and spend time with each other sharing a hobby and passion.

We follow the basic Freemo-N Standards

http://free-mon.net/standard.html

The common Freemo N Standard can be found with the link above. It's quite detailed and well thought out in its approach to prototypical appearance and realistic operations.
We have modified our approach in that the operating height of our modules is 36" +- from the ground. This allows for viewing by young people and wheelchair users alike.
